2010/2011
LPCC Board of Directors - Biographies

In an effort to better acquaint our LPCC members with this year's Board of Director, we have posted brief statements from the Members themselves. Please read below to learn more about you¡¯re Lindale Park Civic Club Board Of Directors.

Beth Bernal, Board Member

My name is Beth Bernal and my husband Jason and I have been residents of Lindale Park for the past 4 years.  I am a corporate attorney specializing in real estate and construction matters.  In my spare time, I enjoy running and gardening.  I had the pleasure of serving on this Board a few years ago, but took some time off from civic service to have our first child, a two-year old little girl.

I would like the opportunity to serve on the Board because I would like to help with the deed restriction process by utilizing my real estate law knowledge and experience, maintain and promote the close-knit feel of this neighborhood through community enrichment, and improve the relationship between the Board and the non-Board residents of the neighborhood by endorsing transparency and public participation.  Lindale Park has been a great neighborhood to live in and one that I am always proud to call home. It would be an honor to serve on this Board and be able to create an impact in a neighborhood that we all love so much.

Thank you for your consideration, Beth Bernal

Edward "Ed" Reyes, Vice-President

A resident of the Lindale Park for almost 50 years. My volunteer enjoyment goes back to the early 1970's.  I became Block Captain of my street to help report crime.  Over the last 16 years I have worked on behalf of Lindale Park Civic Club and have held a number of board positions for the City of Houston that have kept Lindale Park in the forefront.

Included are:

¡¡è      Appointment to Keep Houston Beautiful as a Houston Clean City Board of Director 2003 until 2007

¡¡è      President of Super Neighborhood Council 51 for 5 years

¡¡è      Greater Northside Management District since 2001 to present

¡¡è      TRIZ #21 chairperson City of Houston

¡¡è      Treasurer for the I-45 Coalition

Over the years I have been very instrumental in a number of key projects in Lindale Park and the surrounding community, the Flag Pole Project on Irvington, the 4th of July parade chairperson since the start in 1999. Metro rail with a key stop on Graceland Street and the newest playground in Moody Park 2002. Most recently wrote and received a grant from Green Neighborhood Thumb for Lindale Park, which jump-started our new markers and beautiful flowers on Irvington. We have many challenges ahead and I will work towards the common good of our neighborhood.

Thanks for your support, Ed

Elizabeth (Lizz) Martin, Secretary

We purchased our home in Lindale Park in April 2010, after having lived most recently in Norhill Heights. We have found our neighbors are very friendly and concerned. My family is four generations living in the Lindale and Heights areas, and have loved the community through many changes. I¡¯ve been exposed to the plight of revitalization coordinated with the protection of Historic characteristics.

I am a third generation member of the Houston Heights Woman¡¯s Club, and enjoy working with them in ways such as hosting meetings at the clubhouse. I also serve on the Yearbook committee, which produces the annual membership and activities book.

I have a degree in Marketing, specializing in Special Events and over 20-years experience in all levels of distribution. Most recently I worked as Special Events Designer in the Houston market before semi-retiring in 2009. I have worked with individuals, non-profit groups, communities, and corporate executives.

I believe that due to its proximity, Lindale Park is in a unique position to follow the Heights as an area of increased interest. And, I believe that if we are careful, we can capitalize on their successes and learn from their experiences, making our community what we want it to be - whether we decide we want that to be ¡¡ãlike the good old days¡¡À or something else. I have no preconceived ideas of how I¡¯d like our neighborhood to evolve; this should be a common goal arrived at through discussion. However, I do believe it is important for us to keep our heads up and pay attention to what is happening in the city and government around us so that we can address issues that affect us as they occur.

I also believe that part of keeping our neighborhood safe is to know our neighbors. One good way I know to do this is by creating opportunities for meeting, whether by special events or community volunteer efforts.

I am a fairly new empty-nester with two of my adult children sharing a house just south of us, off of Irvington. While I am busy caring for elderly and disabled family members, I am afforded with some time that I can invest in our neighborhood and community. If it is felt my background and interests may be of service, I would be honored to serve on the Board of the Lindale Park Civic Club.

Thank you , Lizz Martin

Jesse Montez, Treasurer

My name is Jesse Montez.  My family and I are going on our 13th year as your neighbor in Lindale Park.  I have a Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering and an MBA with a concentration in Management of Technology and began the second concentration on Finance.  I enjoyed a career in the Petrochemical Industry for the better part of 13 years as a process engineer and later as a Consultant.  I then changed careers in 2006 into Insurance and Financial Services beginning with Farmers Ins.

Group and now the owner of my own branch office with TWFG ¡§C The Woodlands Financial Group.

We are a community in transition with differing opportunities/challenges that can benefit or may threaten what we cherish.  I saw this first hand with the deed restrictions and vocalized my opinions during the several sessions that were held addressing these issues.  Personally, the future of Lindale Park is our concern, and I would like for all of us to have a say-so as to how we will proceed:

  • I would like to see better communication with our neighbors on the importance of issues that affect our neighborhood to properly represent you on the board,
  • Working with you to develop our ideas to continue developing our neighborhood,
  • Improving safety,
  • Vigilance as new issues arise and
  • Continually promoting a sense of community for our current neighbors as well as those that we eventually make Lindale Park their home.

We have quite a beautiful community referred to the ¡¡ãhidden jewel¡¡À of North Side that I would like to continue call home for as long as God wills it.  I am asking for your support and vote to become a board member to represent our interests now and set the foundation for our future community.

Thank You, Jesse Montez

Don Quintero, Parliamentarian

I¡¯m a lifelong resident of Lindale Park and here are my current affiliations and positions:

¡¡è         Scoutmaster of Troop 1138 ¡§C Boy Scouts of America

¡¡è         Knights of Columbus Council #8404/ Columbian Squire Circle #3433 (St. Patrick)

It would be my goal as a board member to improve relations between the board and the neighborhood.

It would be my objective as a board member to promote/protect interests of residents who own one residence and not so much of those who own multiple properties and those of developers.

Thank you, Don Quintero

Gwyn Guidy

This past year was my fourth year serving as an LPCC Board member and it was, to say the least, a difficult year. It has been an honor to serve with my fellow board members and all the dedicated folks that have contributed to this year's efforts. Both board members and other volunteers stayed focused on the true meaning of serving our community. This year we worked hard towards fulfilling LPCC¡¯s mission to:

¡¡è         help foster a sense of community - by continuing  the tradition of our annual Christmas party and revitalizing our quarterly meetings which now have excellent attendance

¡¡è         increase pride in our neighborhood - by having a great 4th of July parade; and by making continued improvements to our Irvington beds and clubhouse

¡¡è         preserve the future of our unique neighborhood charm - by offering deed restriction amendments that we hoped our residents would adopt and that we felt strongly would help Lindale Park continue to thrive as the residential area it was always meant to be

As for my personal contributions this year, I believed in and worked very hard, though unsuccessfully, to get new deed restrictions in place for Lindale Park. I have served on the Community Enrichment, Membership and Website committees. I maintain the website and answer/route Email sent to our LPCC Email address. I'm the person that sends Emails out to our Email distribution list. I am also involved in the Go-Neighborhoods initiative to revitalize Northside neighborhoods.

For the upcoming year, I plan to work towards rebuilding our sense of community. Our efforts to enhance the deed restrictions was a painful process and I want to help with the healing. I would also like to continue working on the Community Enrichment, Membership and Website committees; and work towards reducing crime in our community.

I would be honored to have the opportunity to serve on the new Board.

Thank you, Gwyn - 23 year resident

Judy Gutierrez

My name is Judy Gutierrez and I have lived in Houston all my life. Here¡¯s a little information about myself; I have been employed with Houston Habitat for Humanity for 10 years. Habitat is a nonprofit organization who helps low income families build a better community for themselves and their families. My job is closing these families then handing over their keys to a new home and a new life. Let me tell you it gets pretty emotional at times, it¡¯s a very rewarding job.

I don¡¯t live in Lindale Park but I have volunteered my services whenever I can; I think Lindale Park is a great community to live in. Over the past years of doing some volunteering or even walking in Lindale I have meet some good people. It is very important for communities to stick together to make it a safer place for the families who work so hard to have a safe home and teach their children morals and respect.

I appreciate the opportunity to have a chance to be selected or to even run for Lindale Park¡¯s board.  It would be a great opportunity to become a member of the Board and have the chance to gain the knowledge to make a difference in my neighborhood.

Thank you, Judy Gutierrez

Kathleen Gutierrez

My name is Kathleen Gutierrez. My husband and I have lived in Lindale Park for 32 years. We raised our two girls here. We have my grandbaby's living across the street from us. I was so happy that they made Lindale their home. I have other family members living here us well.  The moment I moved into Lindale Park, I loved it. To me, you live in a big city but you have a small town feeling.

When you need help your neighbors are always there for you. They become more like family then neighbors.

I have worked hard in the 2 years that I have been on the board and I loved it. I have learned a lot and met some wonderful people. I am excited about new projects that the board will be working on in the coming year.

If I am reelected this year, I look forward to working side by side with each new board member to keep our beautiful Lindale Park the "hidden jewel" on the north side.

Thank you, Kathleen Gutierrez

I have always enjoyed living in Lindale Park and have a strong desire to help this neighborhood maintain its image as a safe, clean, and peaceful neighborhood to live in .If elected I would like to work with fellow board members to help our neighborhood improve property values as well as to determine ways to reduce crime in this area realizing that HPD alone is not the answer. Some of my hobbies include fishing, reading and target shooting. Of course, I am also a fan of the Houston Texans who are led by one of Lindale Park¡¯s former residents, Gary Kubiak. I would be happy to meet with you one on one to address any questions you may have. I will also respond via email if you'd like that as well. Feel free to send a message to this address and I will respond within 24 hours. I have a few ideas I'd like to present to the new board that could help our residents become acquainted with one another, and I'd appreciate hearing your ideas and suggestions on how we can make Lindale Park an even better place to live.

Jessica Rangel

I would like to share with you a little about myself. My name is Jessica Rangel. My husband Gilbert, our three children and I are 2 year residents of Lindale Park. We moved from the suburbs in 2007 and love this neighborhood. We realized right away that Lindale Park is in a great location.  It is very rich in tradition and has kind caring neighbors.  My grandparents have lived in Lindale Park for 41 years so I have many fond memories of Lindale Park from my childhood and I wish to help in

preserving those great qualities and the safety of our future generations to come.

Let me start by saying what an honor it has been to serve this past year with the Lindale Park Civic Club. I have truly enjoyed learning from a great group of people. There is so much that I have learned about how much dedication, devotion and determination is put into our fourth of July parade, deed restrictions, maintenance of our club house and so much more. It has been a wonderful experience to serve in preserving this neighborhoods integrity. I would like to have an opportunity to serve again this year in any way that I can help.  I hope you will consider my name on the ballot this year.

Thank you kindly, Jessica Rangel
